Oakdale Under 8's made the short trip down the A469 to play Penalta, despite the cold, damp conditions both teams put on a fantastic game of rugby with end to end rugby to warm up everybody watching.
Oakdale got out of the blocks fast with Ollie Penny making a break, to pass to William Lewis who was at hand to support him, who made a final try scoring pass to Jacob James to score the games first try.
Oakdale who have played Penalta many times in the past new what to expect with a very fast skillful team and they showed these skills to score two tries.
Oakdale fought back and traded blow for blow with Penalta, with Ollie Penny scoring two tries, with his second after a lovely show and go and a side step that even the legend Phil Bennett would have been proud of.
With the game at 4-3 to Penalta, Pacey Jayne levelled the game with a fantastic try, Penalta again scored to make the game 5-4.
Oakdale again levelled the match through Jacob James.
Ioan Herbert scored a fantastic team try after some lovely pasisng between the boys.
The first half finished at six a piece and gave th chance for the crowd to catch their breath after a fast paced first half.
The second half was no different Penallta started brighter and scored two quick tries after the break.
Oakdale finally had their hands on the ball and Joseph Bonnici pulled one back with a try in the corner after finding a gap down the left wing.
However Penalta again scored to keep them two tries in front.
Charlie Williams made a lovely break who passed to Gethin Tudbull who made a final pass to Joseph Bonnici who scored.
Again Penalta responded with a try but on the stroke of the end of the seond half Charlie Williams pulled one back to make the score 10-9.
With the game at 10-9 if the boys were feeling the pressure they certainly did not show it and both teams continued to play great rugby, this time Oakdale must have had extra juice in their half time oranges as they made the brighter start with William Lewis to make the score even at 10-10.
Penalta again edged further ahead scoring two tries, but Oakdale refused to give up and Ollie Penny score his third try of the match, Oakdale could smell victory and Pacy Jayne made a fantastic break who passed to Rhys Gammage in support who scored to make it 12-12.
Penalta again scored to go one ahead however at the end of of the third quarter Brayley Williams-Price made the score 13-13.
With the excitement now at a crescendo, in the final five minutes both sides looked to gain the victory and left nothing out there.
Oakdale were in possession with Ruben Williams who took the ball forward and passed to Charlie Williams who danced his way to the try line and to put Oakdales nose in front making it 13-14,
With the game coming to an end Oakdale looked to hang in their for the victory with some resolute defending but it was not to be Penalta as they had done all match scored to draw level, and in the dying moments scored the final winning try to make the game 15-14.
Oakdale can count themselves unlucky not to win, despite the loss they can be very proud of today's performance and how far they have come this season with some great passing, supporting running and tagging they have come on leaps and bounds under the watchful eye of coaches Adam and Lee.
