Good start to the season for the U9's

The Dale convoy were back on the road for the first game of the 2014/2015 season, travelling down the Sirhowy Valley to Ynysddu on a sunny Sunday morning.

The Dale won the toss and started the game with Max Rossiter and Jordan Way keen to get the game started, both got tackled and the ball was passed to Thomas Gregory who crossed the try line to start the scoring, 0-1.

The next phase of play saw excellent tackling by William Morgan followed by 3 in quick succession by Max Rossiter, but Ynysddu managed to break the defence to equalise, 1-1.

After two tackles Thomas took the ball and weaved the defence to score, 1-2.

A knock on by Ynysddu gave the Dale their first scrum, William Davey acted as scrum half, and he passed to Thomas Gregory who ran the length of the pitch to score, 1-3.

Half time Ynysddu 1- Oakdale 3.

Ynysddu started the second half with a try. 2-3.

Dale restarted and Jordan Way took the ball and gained some good ground, Ynysddu managed to tackle him just before the try line, Thomas was there to catch the off load and score, 2-4.

Excellent defence by William Morgan before Max Rossiter bundled the hosts into touch.  Good passing between the team resulted in Thomas Gregory claiming the try, 2-5.

Zac Tucker had a great tackle and caused a knock on, scrum to Dale, the ball was passed out and went loose, Ynysddu scooped up the ball and used it to score, 3-5.

Ynysddu restarted and they were tackled into touch.  Dylan Caddy acted as scrum half and passed the ball back to Dafydd Price who had a great run to score, 3-6.

Ynysddu restarted and a few missed tackled saw them advance to the try line, William Morgan got to the tackle but it was on the try line seeing the hosts take the last points of the day, 4-7.

Without chance to rest Oakdale went into the next game against Abertillery.

Their fresh legs showed and they started the game with a try, 1-0.  Dale restarted and possession passed back and fore ending with Abertillery.  Max Rossiter made a great driving tackle but Abertillery found the try line, 2-0.  Dale restarted but lost possession, there were some great tackles by Max Rossiter, William Davey, William Morgan and Jordan Way but they couldn’t stop Abertillery scoring, 3-0. Dal restarted Oliver Cooke had a run but was taken into touch on the half time whistle.

Dale started the second half and Max Rossiter had an excellent run to within yards of the try line, he got tackled and passed to Thomas who passed wide, this was well taken by James but offside gave Abertillery the ball.  The second half saw Oakdale make some good tackles and had some runs but Abertillery were the stronger team running in another two tries.

Coaches view – A great first game for the boys who took to the tackling well, a lot to work on but all positive. Well done boys.
