Season Finale Tournement

Oakdale Under 8's finished off their season with a trip to the Roman Town of Caerleon to the home of Newport HSOB for a final tournement playing against HSOB, Caerleon RFC and Forgeside. Just like Julius Ceaser and his Legionnaires Oakdale RFC were looking to conquer all comers and win the spoils of war.

With coach Lee James apparently scouting next years apparent tour opposition in Bennidorm it was down to Adam to look after them and he must have been up all night studying the opposition as he arrived squinty eyed.

The boys were excited as this was the last time they would be wearing their tag belts with tackling being introduced next season, with the sun shinning in the glorious city of Newport we were looking forward to some fine running rugby from all the teams.

Due to the unavailibility of some the team Oakdale fielded the bare eight meaning they would have to play every minute of every game, even though some of dads volunteered to assist Adam decided to take his chances with the eight which was a good decision as there would been a number hamstrings being pulled by looking at some of them.

The boys first opposition was local side Caerleon, the score finishing 4 all with tries from Gethin Tudbull, Olly Penny, Ruben Williams and Jacon James, with man of the match going to Gethin.

The second game was against a very well drilled and skillfull Forgeside RFC with the game going back and fore it was end to end stuff, however with Forgeside being able to bring on fresh legs in what was very hot conditions they came from behind to win with Oakdale running ot of steam with the game finishing Forgeside 6 - Oakdale 4.

Tries coming from 3 from Olly Penny and one from Jacob James with man of the match going to Charlie Williams.

The boys final game of the tournement, season and their final game of tag wa straight after Forgeside, the boys quickly re-fuelled, eat some haribo had water thrown over them to freshen them up against the hosts Newport HSOB.

Oakdale saved the best to last and were outstanding winning the game 4 -1, tries coming from Ruben Williams, Jacob James, Olly Penny and Joseph Bonnici.

Oakdale finished the tournement on six points and in second place, with the winners being Forgeside.

All the boys throughout the season were fantastic and have come on in leaps and bounds, have a good break and freshen up ready for a big season in September.

Thanks to coaches Adam, Lee and Andrew for their commitment, patience and hard work with the kids throughout the year.

Thank you to Rhian for organising everything for the matches and all the parents for their efforts in getting the boys their week in week out.

So until next season this is your pitch side reporter signing out, They think its all over it is now.

Thanks for reading
