U9's Roman Battle

Today saw the U9’s make their way to the Roman Village of Caerleon for the last game of 2014. 
 
Caerleon won the toss and started the game and from the off the Dale showed some strong defence resulting in turnover ball.  We saw some great passing between the team before a handoff gave possession back to the hosts.  Gabriel Jones and William Morgan made some good tackles forcing Caerleon to throw a wide ball which was knocked on, scrum Dale.  The whole team came together to move up the field, passing before they were tackled and making some great progress.  A knock on by Dale gave possession to Caerleon, they made a great break but were chased down by Thomas Gregory, Dale regained the ball and the team persisted on the attack before Gabriel Jones scored, 0-1.
Caerleon restarted, the Dale defence were up for it today with William Morgan, Max Rossiter and Zac Tucker making some great tackles and Jordan Way pushing them back.  Dale won turnover ball and persisted at the try line, Caerleon held them for a bit but perseverance paid off and James Williams crossed the white wash, 0-2.
 
First quarter Caerleon 0 – Oakdale 2
 
Dale restarted and the ball was passed to William Morgan who in his usual determined style, head down running straight, crossed the try line, 0-3.  Caerleon restarted tackles were made by Max Rossiter, William Morgan and Jordan Way but the hosts found the try line, 1-3.  Max Rossiter, Thomas Gregory and James Williams showed great teamwork but a knock on gave Caerleon the scrum, Thomas Gregory came in for the tackle getting two for the price of one knocking them down like dominos, scrum Dale.  William Morgan advanced well into the hosts half, the ball was passed to William Davey, Max Rossiter, Dafydd Price, Zac Tucker, all trying their best to reach the try line, the ball found its way back to William Morgan to secure the try, 1-4.  Caerleon responded with a try despite the tackles by Thomas Gregory, William Morgan and Zac Tucker, 2-4.  Dale restarted with a run by Dafydd Price, he passed to William Morgan but a knock on passed possession to the hosts, Max Rossiter regained the ball by forcing Caerleon into touch.  William Davey took the ball another knock on passed possession back to Caerleon and they scored 3-4.
 
Second quarter Caerleon 3 – Oakdale 4
 
Caerleon started this quarter, William Morgan, Thomas Gregory and Jordan Way showed great defence with Jordan causing a knock on,  Dale were unable to use this with a loose ball being picked up by the hosts, Oliver Cooke made a tackle before Thomas Gregory’s thumping tackle took Caerleon into touch regaining the ball, Thomas Gregory and William Morgan had good runs but Caerlon’s defence was strong gaining possession momentarily before Jordan Way and Zac Tucker pounced on a loose ball, Jordan took the ball and made good progress to the try line, the ball was passed between the team but we were unable to break the defence.  No tries this quarter.
 
Third quarter Caerleon 3 – Oakdale 4
 
The last quarter was started by the Dale, great passing and teamwork saw William Morgan take his hat trick, 3-5.  Caerleon came back with a try, 4-5.  Dale were held on the Caerleon try line, the possession passed to Caerleon and despite good tackling and a chase down by Connor Thomas Caerleon scored, 5-5.  Dale showed the teamwork and passing skills they are developing, William Morgan saw a gap in the defence and burst through to take the final score of the morning, 5-6.

Coaches Comments - When in Caerleon!! The boys put everything into the game and even had a defence like true Romans.  Well done boys!
